The Way to Wide-Open Space

LISTEN

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).

My love, you know how I love to tell you, “breathe deep”? You know how I love to quiet you, remind you I am here?

What does it look like? What does it look like to have peace in your heart?

Picture open space and beauty and the sounds of life. There may be a breeze blowing. You may feel it on your skin. Or you see the space within you.

It is open space within you where I enter in.

Open space is opportunity. It is freedom. It is love. It is untamed obedience and desire and glory—Me in you spread out wide and deep and long.

I want more open space for you, my girl. I want more richness and abandonment of rules for the sake of following Me.

I know the way to open space.

You may feel trapped right now, the world closed in and the list of obligations so long. But I come to you there, my hand extended.

See Me looking at you.

In this place where there seems no place to turn, I invite you into open space. Wide open for you and Me to walk in wild, love-filled abandon together.

We all face times in our lives when we need something to change—we need to move forward, but we struggle to know how. This Loop devotional series was created for that season, when you are no longer okay settling for what’s in front of you, and you’re determined to let God draw you closer—whatever it takes. If the devotional blesses you, will you consider sharing it with another sister today?

“Can you see us? How we’re climbing? Put your foot here. Let Me help you feel secure. Test out that footing. Is it strong enough to hold you—make you feel safe? Do I make you feel safe? Now reach out your hand. Use your fingers. Feel along the wall to find the crack. It is high up, yes? And now reach, reach, reach, and step. Feel My hand on your hand, helping you grip. I know you can’t see as much as you have to feel. You have to trust where I am telling you to put your hand and your foot. And then the other hand, the other foot. Do you trust me? Do you think I will let you fall?” → From FLAG Maneuver No. 30. He won’t let you fall, beloved. Let me say that again: He won’t let you fall.

The Bible tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength, but what does this mean in a practical, day-to-day sense? Can we experience that joy every day, in every season? What about the aches and pains and empty places we encounter in this imperfect world? Here’s what one author has to say about that: “When the returned exiles listened to the law long enough to realize their own emptiness, God invited them to walk through that emptiness to him. There was joy, then, in Israel—not because the people of God had stopped up their emptiness like rags beneath a leaking door, but because they had finally turned to face it and could look through it like an open door to the Lord.” → You can read the rest here, if you’re interested.
