I Like to Be Where You Are
“He said to them, ‘Come and you will see.’ So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day . . .” (John 1:39).
My daughter, when I came to dwell with you, it was before you ever knew. But I have known you and sought you out and loved being with you.
Do you know I love to sit with you? Do you know I love to study your face? This face I touched and touch, now, even still?
I like to be where you are. As I am with you, do you know I invite you in, to be with Me, to stay with Me? Do you feel Me next to you?
There is a difference between feeling I am close and knowing I am in you. For I am in you, my love—and I invite you in, even deeper, still.
I say, “Come and see.” Come with Me. See where I am. Stay with Me. Be with Me. Watch Me. Follow Me. Be close. Ask Me questions.
Come and see.
I turn and answer.
Be curious about what we do together. I love to hear your heart speak. I hear you. I delight in hearing you. Do not fear about the next turn in the road as we walk, as you follow.
Stay close.
See the steps and the focus on what is ahead, all the while staying close to Me. Oh, my girl, I am close.
Come closer.
I invite you in. Stay with Me awhile.
I have so many things to speak to your heart.

This world teaches us to silence what is deepest inside of us—those longings and fears and questions that make us completely human, completely dependent on God. It’s hard to unlearn that habit of quieting our inner world. If that’s where you find yourself today, let Holy Spirit speak these words to you: “What if, instead of silencing your heart, you stay here with Me for a bit and we sit with it? For right now, how I am speaking to you is made possible through your open heart.” Read the rest of the message here—and if you know someone who would be blessed by it, consider passing it along.
“Seventy minutes of walking, heavy rucksack on my back, and I am back home. Justin is in the garage working out, and I go inside to shower—windows open to the garden. As I dress, I peek out to watch sunlight dapple purple salvia, catch a hummingbird darting into the bulky-flowered Cuphea near the orange tree, its beak plunging into long, tubular flowers. “And I will sing of Your love forever / Sing of Your love for all eternity / And I will sing of the cross of Jesus / Sing of how You laid down Your life for me” plays through the speakers—and my heart, it sings, too.” → I wrote this a couple months ago, a simple reminder of the daily beauty we encounter when our hearts are open to it. Here’s how I practice finding beauty in the blurred.
Depending on where you live, chances are that, right now, flowers are blooming, grass is growing, trees are covered in thick, green leaves, and little creatures are out looking for food. This season is a reminder of the deep, life-giving, fruitful love of our Creator. But there are also times when our lives feel more like winter—barren, lonely, and cold. I pray this article meets you in that place with rich beauty and warmth, reminding you of what is true about God’s love in this very place.
