What Your Soul is Trying to Tell You
There is beauty everywhere. Can you see it? Can you see me in the wind, the tumble of a leaf? Do you notice my energy behind and in everything? The laughter of friends, the love I have for you? I am in everything I have created. Where do you most want me to be?
Dear one, how is your heart? Have you asked it how it is?
One of the kindest, most helpful things we can do—at the beginning, middle, or end of a day (anytime!)—is pause, turn inward, and ask our soul this question: “How are you?” And then listen. Listen for its response.
Isn't this so needed? We are made from love, and we are desperate for love. So what if we practiced intentionally loving our souls through attention, through pausing to listen to what they need?
I love how, in Psalm 42:5, 11 and Psalm 43:5, the psalmist models this pattern of checking in with his soul:
"Why are you cast down, O my soul? Why are you in turmoil within me?"
Sensitive to his spiritual health, he initiates an internal, personal conversation: How am I? What am I feeling? What do I need?
"He who gains wisdom loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will find good" (Proverbs 19:8).
So today, let’s pause, breathe, ask our souls a brief question, and listen.
What you hear in response might not come through words. You may not “hear” a response. Rather, you might experience relief or comfort as your soul feels loved through the simple gift of attention.
So, will you join me? This will take just a few minutes. And it will be so worth it, I promise.
With much love and expectation,
Jennifer
Exercise:
Find a quiet place where you can be alone for a few moments.
Empty your hands and get comfortable.
Close your eyes and ask your soul this simple question: “How are you?”
Breathe deeply, with slow inhales and exhales, as you listen to your soul’s response.
After a few moments of listening, feel free to pick up a pen and journal—or just continue to sit quietly, letting the question simply be a check-in of love, with few words exchanged.
Notice Holy Spirit's presence within you now. Let Him attend to your soul. Receive His love.
Consider the impact of this conversation upon your soul, this attention and love. Tell Holy Spirit about it. He loves this so much.
Amen.
